Nocturnal Animals, the upcoming dramatic-thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams, among other big names, has had its premiere at the 2016 Venice Film Festival.
This marks the second feature from American fashion designer Tom Ford, who previously directed Colin Firth to an Oscar nomination in the 2009 drama A Single Man.
Based on the novel “Tony and Susan” by Austin Wright, the film follows a “story inside a story” type of narrative. We follow Susan (Adams), who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband (Gyllenhaal), and the other narrative element follows the book itself, titled “Nocturnal Animals.” The manuscript tells of a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly.
The early reviews from Venice have been quite positive thus far, with many critics praising Ford’s stylish direction and the great performances by Adams and Gyllenhaal. Word is that it’s a pretty brutal outing, so expect some heavy violence and dark content with this one.
