The eagerly awaited official teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film Nosferatu has arrived, promising a stylish and creepy-looking new film from writer-director Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman). Watch it above.
A retelling of the 1922 silent classic of the same name (itself an unauthorised and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula), Nosferatu explores the obsessive relationship between the vampire Count Orlok and Ellen Hutter.
Bill Skarsgård steps into the shoes of Count Orlok (kept mostly hidden in the trailer), Lily-Rose Depp portrays Ellen Hutter, Nicholas Hoult plays Thomas Hutter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is Friedrich Harding, Emma Corrin is Anna Harding, Ralph Ineson is Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, Simon McBurney is Herr Knock, and Willem Dafoe is Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz.
This isn’t Dafoe’s first foray into the world of Nosferatu; he played actor Max Schreck, the man who played Count Orlok in the 1922 original, in 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire – a fictionalised account of how the classic picture was made.
The film reunites Eggers with creative collaborators such as cinematographer Jarin Blaschke, editor Louise Ford, and production designer Craig Lathrop, all of whom worked on The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman. Composer Robin Carolan, who scored The Northman, is also on board.
Nosferatu will be opening in US cinemas on Christmas Day and will be released for Australian audiences on January 1st, 2024.
