NSFW ‘We Are the Flesh’ Trailer Provides Potent Look at Mexican Horror

We Are the Flesh - Horror - 20116

A NSFW work trailer has dropped for We Are the Flesh, an upcoming Mexican horror film being backed by filmmakers Alejandro Iñarritu (The Revenant) and Carlos Reygadas (Japón).

Directed by newcomer Emiliano Rocha Minter, We Are the Flesh (titled Tenemos la Carne in Spanish) tells of a brother and sister wandering a ruined city in post-apocalyptic Mexico. They soon find a surviving building with a man who makes them an offer to survive the outside world. As the trailer below shows, staying with this man isn’t going to be a walk in the park.

We Are the Flesh will have its world premiere at the Rotterdam Film Festival on February 2nd, the first of many potential big festival entries since Reel Suspects acquired world sales rights. The acquisition and the public backing by fellow Latin American filmmakers such as Iñarritu and Reygadas certainly bodes well for the picture, which looks to be packing in style, mood, and bizarre brutality in equal doses. We’re very intrigued.

Synopsis for We Are the Flesh:

‘We Are the Flesh’ is set in a post-apocalypse Mexico, where a brother and sister, Lucio and Fauna, wander a ruined city for years in search of food and shelter. They find their way into one of its last surviving buildings, where a man makes them a dangerous offer to survive the outside world. As they help him transform the building into a womb-like cave, a disquieting sexual relationship emerges, along with a dynamic in which darker instincts do their destructive work.
