Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

Dakota Johnson, Casey Affleck & Jason Segel star in upcoming dramedy Our Friend, the kind of film you need to see with tissues at the ready.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer for the film, which has been on the shelf for around a year after hitting the festival circuit in late 2019. The plot follows the true story of what unfolds when mother-of-two Nicole (Johnson) is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Dane (Segel), a longtime best friend to Nicole and her husband, Matt (Affleck), decides to put his life on hold to help his buddies during this incredibly emotional and difficult time.

The film is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, who certainly experience driving emotion following her incendiary and heartbreaking killer whales-in-captivity documentary Blackfish and Kate Mara-starring dog film Megan Leavey. The script comes from Brad Ingelsby, whose credits include Out of the Furnace and The Way Back.

Our Friend, with Gwendoline Christie and Cherry Jones among its extended cast, will be released in limited US cinemas and On Demand on January 22, 2021.

Official synopsis for Our Friend:

As Matt’s responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple’s best friend Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel) offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.
