Set across two different eras, the series follows the sweeping romances of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. From the trenches of World War I to the windswept Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, this prequel offers a fresh reveal on the saga by confirming that time travel—and the tangled emotions that come with it—was always in the bloodline.

“I don’t know how I got here,” Julia (Hermione Corfield) says. “Perhaps I’ve lost my mind. There was a deafening sound, and then you were gone. Or perhaps I was.” The trailer wastes no time teasing the reveal: Claire’s parents didn’t die in a car crash. They vanished through the standing stones at Craigh Na Dun.
Crossed Fates and Interwoven Histories
Fans will spot familiar names in unfamiliar forms. There’s Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater), pulled toward Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) despite clan politics—and a mother named Julia seemingly nudging her toward the forbidden romance. In the present, Henry (Jeremy Irvine) searches for Julia across time, vowing, “I will,” when asked if he’ll ever find her again.
It’s not just a story of how Jamie and Claire came to be—it’s a reflection of them. “Two love stories connected by time,” the trailer proclaims. It also confirms that Julia and Ellen’s paths intersect, changing what long-time fans thought they knew.
As executive producer Maril Davis told Entertainment Weekly, “We are going to [show] not only one great love affair, but two great love affairs and how those parallel love stories intertwine and show us how we got to Jamie and Claire.”
New Faces, Familiar Names, and Early Confidence
The prequel introduces a fresh cast, including Rory Alexander as a younger Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Séamus McLean Ross and Sam Retford as Colum and Dougal MacKenzie, and Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat. There’s also Conor MacNeill as legal mind Ned Gowan and Sadhbh Malin as a younger Jocasta.
Matthew B. Roberts returns as showrunner and executive producer, alongside franchise veterans Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis. The series is produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
And Starz isn’t hedging its bets. Blood of My Blood has already been renewed for a second season before its premiere. As Roberts said in a statement when the early renewal was announced, “The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in season two.”
