Amazon has cast its lead for the upcoming take on The Tick.
Peter Serafinowicz, the British actor-comedian whose big-screen credits include parts in Shaun of the Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy, will be playing the comic book character created by Ben Edlund in 1986.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Serafinowicz will be leading the Amazon pilot to be directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer turned director Wally Pfister (Transcendence). It remains to be seen if the pilot is deemed worthy of a series.
Griffin Newman, who can be seen in HBO’s Vinyl, has been cast as Arthur, The Tick’s moth suit-wearing sidekick. Valorie Curry, known for her roles in The Following and House of Lies, will be playing Dot Everest, Arthur’s sister.
The Tick was first taken to the screen as an animated series in 1994. Patrick Warburton, known for Rules of Engagement and for voicing Joe Swanson on Family Guy, took on the lead role in a live-action version that hit Fox back in 2001. Although it only went on to last nine episodes, it was generally well received and now has a cult following.
Creator Edlund, who was also behind both the animated and live-action series, is attached as writer and executive producer on this new outing. Warburton is also expected to exec produce.
