For those unaware, the film comes from writer/director Brandon Cronenberg (son of acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg), and tells of an elite, corporate assassin Tasya Vos (Andrea Riseborough, Mandy) who uses brain-implant tech to control other people’s bodies and execute high profile targets. The latest assignment places Vos in a mind that refuses to comply, threatening to obliterate her.
The cast also includes Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night), Rossif Sutherland (Guest of Honor), Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight).
Possessor, Croneberg’s sophomore feature following 2012’s Antiviral, has been earning wide acclaim from critics (currently at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes) during its festival run and recent US/Canada release. It’s also had people talking – that Uncut in this release’s title points to the film’s reportedly ultra-gnarly elements. Expect an MA15+ or R18+ rating for this one.
