The teaser trailer for Primitive War has stomped online, offering a glimpse at what happens when the horrors of war collide with toothy prehistoric nightmares. Set during the Vietnam War, the film introduces a secret mission gone sideways—because deep in the jungle, the real threat isn’t just the enemy. It’s dinosaurs. Based on the novel by Ethan Pettus, the film is directed and written by Luke Sparke (Occupation Rainfall, Bring Him to Me) and follows Vulture Squad, a recon unit sent to locate a missing Green Beret team. What they find instead is something far more feral—and very much alive. It’s a wild concept that could make for a fun, thrilling time.

Jeremy Piven, Tricia Helfer, Ryan Kwanten, and Nick Wechsler headline the cast, joined by Anthony Ingruber, Aaron Glenane, Carlos Sanson Jr, Ana Thu Nguyen, Albert Mwangi, Adolphus Waylee, Henry Nixon, Lincoln Lewis, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, Marcus Johnson, and Jake Ryan.

Shot on the Gold Coast with a largely local crew, the production has already locked in theatrical distribution across Australia and New Zealand through Rialto. “Primitive War is an independent marvel that has the scope, thrills and technical wizardry to match any blockbusting creature feature stalking the cinema screens of the 21st century,” said the distributor. “Rialto is thrilled to be partnering with Luke and his team in ANZ on this most deliriously entertaining of pictures.”

Sparke says this first look is but a tidbit of what’s in store in the ambitious film. “This teaser is just a small taste of what’s to come in this epic. We’ve been in post production for almost a year now and our amazing artists and team have cooked up something very cool!”

Pettus, meanwhile, is on board with the direction: “I’m thrilled to see Luke’s interpretation of my work. I know his team is giving this project everything they’ve got.”

Primitive War is scheduled to release globally in 2025. Release dates to be announced.
