Nicole Kidman plays English writer, traveller, and political officer – among many other things – Gertrude Bell in the latest film from writer-director Werner Herzog (Nosferatu the Vampyre, Grizzly Man, Rescue Dawn), and we’ve got the first trailer for you to watch right here.
Bell led quite the life, helping develop certain sectors of the Middle East throughout her travels and playing a big part in the establishment of Iraq’s modern state.
Bell’s life is certainly a big subject to bring to the big screen, and we’re downright intrigued to see what Herzog does with her story. Early word hasn’t been very positive, with certain reviews criticizing the film as being a cheesy and ultimately dull outing; could Kidman have another Grace of Monaco on her resume?
Still, there’s a hell of a lot of talent here, including a cast that includes James Franco, Robert Pattinson and Damian Lewis, so fingers crossed.
