Two very big names have officially been added to the cast list of Quentin Tarantino‘s next film.
Brad Pitt and Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio have signed up to star in Tarantino’s much buzzed about next feature, which has been titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Sony announced the casting of Pitt and DiCaprio today, with Tarantino describing the plot of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as…
“… a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor…Sharon Tate.”
Margot Robbie has been in Tarantino’s sights to play Tate – who was brutally murdered by Manson’s followers – for quite a while now, so stay tuned on that front. Tarantino previously directed DiCaprio in Django Unchained and Pitt in Inglourious Basterds.
“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old,” Tarantino said in a statement.
“I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”
This will mark the first Tarantino film to be made without Harvey Weinstein, who Tarantino dropped following the producer’s highly publicised downfall. Sony won the studio race for the filmmaker’s ninth picture, going all out to do so.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been scheduled for worldwide release on August 9, 2019.
