Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano, Harvey Keitel and Jane Fonda have joined Michael Caine in Youth, the next film from writer-director Paolo Sorrentino. Sorrentino helmed last year’s brilliant Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award-winner The Great Beauty.
Youth, which also stars Willem Dafoe, tells the story of Fred and Mick, two old friends approaching 80. Fred is a retired composer and conductor, while Mick is a filmmaker scrambling to finish his final screenplay. The two reminisce, contemplate the lives of their children and ponder what’s left of their futures. Meanwhile, there is someone who very much wishes to see Fred composing and conducting once again.
The film has a screenplay by Sorrentino and is being produced by his longtime producers Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima and Carlotta Calori, partners at Rome’s Indigo Film. Pathé International is taking the title to next week’s Cannes Market, where it is expected to be picked up quite quickly.
Production on Youth is set to commence this month.
