Aussie actress Rebel Wilson is set to star in a female-centric remake of the 1988 comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

As per The Wrap, Wilson will be one of the two leads in the MGM redo, which tells of two female con artists – a high society-type, in the vein of the character Michael Caine took on in the original film, and a “more earthy” character, such as that played by Steve Martin – who endeavour to rob a young tech executive of his fortune. No word as yet on which character Wilson will be taking.

The screenplay comes from Jac Schaeffer, who wrote and directed the indie fantasy dramedy TiMER.

The much-loved ’88 comedy boasts truly great turns by Caine and Martin, and still stands up well today. Hopefully this remake, which doesn’t have a director attached as yet, will prove to be worth the effort. It’s interesting to note that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was itself a remake of Bedtime Story, a 1964 comedy starring Marlon Brando and David Niven.

Wilson can be seen making an appearance in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie and has signed on to reprise her role as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect 3, which is scheduled for U.S. release on December 22, 2017.
