A new red band trailer has dropped for Why Him?, the upcoming comedy starring Bryan Cranston and James Franco.

The films tells of Ned (Cranston), an overprotective and loving father who finds himself going head to head with his daughter’s crude, wild but well-meaning billionaire boyfriend (Franco).

This one’s coming down to Franco and Cranston, and whether the two of them can deliver laughs and chemistry throughout the very familiar plotline. No doubt we’ve been here before, but there does appear to be some crude fun on offer. Fingers crossed.

Directed by John Hamburg (I Love You Man, Along Came Polly) and written by Hamburg and Ian Helfer (The Oranges).

Why Him?, also starring, Zoey Deutch, Megan Mullally, Keegan-Michael Key, Adam Devine, Casey Wilson and Andrew Rannells, will hit the US on December 23 and arrives in Australia on December 26.

Synopsis for Why Him?:

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned’s panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
