We review one of the year’s most anticipated releases with Gravity, the ambitious anthology film The Turning, and Paul Greengrass’ latest film based on true events with Captain Phillips.   • Some sad news to begin with. Author Tom Clancy passed away this week at the age of 66. While starting as a novelist, his creations branched out to leave a legacy in film and video games as well. Read more

Movie News


  • Production has begun on 22 Jump Street. The sequel will see undercover cops Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum infiltrate a college this time round and is set for release June 13 2014. Read more


  • Classic Disney villain Cruella de Vil will be getting a live-action movie to herself. No discussion yet of what Dalmatian count we can expect. Read more


  • Angelina Jolie’s next directorial venture Unbroken will be shot in Australia. Filming will commence October 21 and will be shot in New South Wales and Queensland. Read more


  • Also starting production this week was the soccer biopic Pelé. Written and Directed by Jeff and Michael Zimbalist, the film will follow the Brazilian football legend from a young boy to national inspiration. Read more


  • An interesting new deal has been made between 20th Century Fox and independent comic book label Boom! Studios. The deal ensures Fox has first look at adapting any new series, from Boom! Studios and its recently acquired imprint Archaia Entertainment. Read more

Casting Buzz


  • Hugh Jackman has been cast in an undisclosed role for Neil Blomkamp’s next film, Chappie. Set in Johannesburg, Chappie will follow a robot member of the police force who is kidnapped. Read more



  • 24 for will be returning for a 12 episode series entitled 24: Live Another Day. Kiefer Sutherland will be reprising his role as Jack Bauer for Fox’s limited “event series”. Read more
