Richard Linklater, the director of Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, School of Rock and A Scanner Darkly, is set to direct a dramedy starring Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis. The Wrap is reporting that Linklater will be at the helm of Larry’s Kidney, to be produced by Scott Aversano (School of Rock, Team America: World Police, Safe House).
An adaptation of Daniel Asa Rose’s touching comic memoir, Larry’s Kidney will see Ferrell play Rose, “who traveled to China with his black-sheep cousin Larry (Galifianakis) and his mail-order bride to save Larry’s life by skirting the law and securing him a kidney transplant.”
Ferrell and Galifianakis’ last feature film together was the 2012 comedy The Campaign, which brought in over $100 million in worldwide box-office receipts.
Linklater’s upcoming film Boyhood is currently doing the festival rounds. The film took him 12 years to make.
It isn’t yet known when production on Larry’s Kidney will begin. We’ll keep you up to date.
