I mean, is there a better way to voice a drunk?
That’s the mindset at work in this great behind-the-scenes video released for Rick and Morty, showcasing co-creator, writer, executive producer and voice actor Justin Roiland getting wasted as he voices Rick Sanchez in episode four of the animated show’s long-awaited third season.
Now, I don’t know about you, but good luck getting me to do any work while I’m getting riggity-wrecked, son.
“I’ve been working on the show since season 1, and this is by far the least productive and messiest record day we’ve every had,” says Sydney Ryan, the poor associate producer who had to try keep Roiland on task.
Rick and Morty, arguably one of the greatest animated series, scratch that, series ever made, benefits from the humour and magic that comes with Roiland’s rapid-fire delivery and occasional improv. While one can only wish this is how it worked for us at our day jobs, add tequila and the genius here looks to be amplified.
The third season’s hugely acclaimed first episode, “The Rickshank Rickdemption”, premiered unannounced and re-ran for four hours straight as part of Adult Swim’s annual April Fools’ prank. The next thirteen episodes will be airing later this year, apparently during the US summer season (June – September).
