“Alright, Morty, talk about the thing – they paid us a lot.”
So says Rick Sanchez, while literally counting money, in a Rick and Morty commercial for the newly released Sony PlayStation 5. You ask the Rick and Morty team to advertise – they’re going to do so with as much of a smart-ass slant as possible.
Sony clearly gave them marketing points to cover, such as mentioning the speed and the new controller’s buttons, and they do so in amusingly dismissive fashion. And with a few secs left, Rick manages to drop expletives as a final ‘hey, you asked for it, Sony.’
As for season 5 of the beloved animated series: the good news is that co-creator Dan Harmon says they’re actually “more on schedule than we’ve ever been.” He told Syfy Wire that the pandemic hasn’t proved to be a hindrance for the team. In fact, it’s been beneficial.
“It kind of makes you have to focus on the whole process when you don’t have this office environment anymore. Everyone has to run this bee colony remotely, so the honey just gets made more consistently. It’s working for us.”
Check out their PlayStation 5 ad below. And if your’e after more R&M goodness, check out an ultra-violent Rick and Morty anime samurai short film, watch co-creator Justin Roiland get drunk while voicing Rick, and watch co-creator Harmon talking about some of the show’s more existential discussions.
