Some great news for fans of Ricky Gervais’ Netflix series After Life.
The acclaimed dramedy series will be receiving a third season thanks to a new multi-year deal struck between Netflix and Gervais, who is now set to develop further scripted projects and stand-up specials for the streamer.
After Life dropped its second six-episode season on April 24 and was very well received, quickly shooting to the top of Netflix’s trending list.
“Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at @Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat arse and do another season,” Gervais posted on social media. “This is all your fault.”
As for where the show could go, Gervais has described the two seasons thus far as just “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to exploring the lives of these Tambury residents. Speaking to Deadline last month, Gervais expressed the possibility of a third season – his first, as his other scripted shows have been two and done.
“I could see myself doing a third season for the first time ever, because I love the world. There are so many strong characters. I’d say there are six characters that could have their own sitcom; that could be the lead in a sitcom. Even the place is a character, I think. […] I haven’t run out of ideas, though, because we haven’t gone in depth with a lot of these characters. You can keep twisting the knife. It’s the tip of the iceberg.”
If you’re yet to check out After Life, be sure to do so. It’s great.
