Universal Pictures has dropped the first trailer for Ride Along 2, the sequel to last year’s action-comedy.
The follow-up sees Ice Cube’s James Payton and Kevin Hart’s Ben Barber head to Miami, where they team up with Olivia Munn and Ken Jeong to help them bring down a drug dealer distributing to Atlanta dealers.
In case you weren’t a fan of the first film and were wondering why a sequel was in play, the only thing you need to look at is the $153 million box office gross Ride Along took on a budget of $25 million.
If you were a fan, then this should be your cup of tea. The trailer provides a look at what seems to be a bigger movie, with snippets of some slick-looking action sequences and new faces thrown into the mix. We enjoyed the opening Fast and Furious bit too, even if it does give away what could have been a nice surprise.
Director Tim Story returns, as do screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.
Ride Along 2, also starring Benjamin Bratt, Bruce McGill, and Sherri Shepherd, will arrive at U.S. cinemas on January 15, 2016.
Mini rundown for Ride Along 2:
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the returning lineup of Ride Along 2, the sequel to the blockbuster action-comedy that gave us the year’s most popular comedy duo. Joining Hart and Cube for the next chapter of the series are director Tim Story, as well as Cube’s fellow producers—Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner—who will produce alongside Cube.
