Paramount Pictures has unveiled the very first trailer for Rings, the next chapter in the Ring horror franchise.
The malevolent spirit of Samara appears to be back and angrier than ever in this sequel, which comes sixteen years after the release of The Ring 2.
The plot tells of a young woman (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz) who becomes involved in her boyfriend’s exploration of a dark subculture surrounding a certain videotape. Yep, it’s that videotape, the one that kills the watcher seven days after they have viewed it. Samara has returned, and by the looks of it, she’s going viral.
The Ring was a standout horror film, in this writer’s opinion. A creepy pic boasting strong direction from Gore Verbinski, who would go on to craft the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and a great performance by Naomi Watts. The film was of course a remake of Ringu, Hideo Nakata’s Japanese horror film from 1998, and began a wave of horror remakes such as The Grudge, The Eye, Dark Water and Shutter. Now, whether this three-quel is as effective, successful and kicks off a new wave of similar horror pics remains to be seen.

Rings, also starring Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio, will hit the U.S. on October 28 and arrives in Australia on November 24.
