Lucy Hale will star as the lead character in Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, from Riverdale creator/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.
The former star of Pretty Little Liars is to play the titular character in The CW’s spinoff pilot, which will be following the lives and loves of four Archie Comics characters. Katy Keen is described as a musical dramedy chronicling the ups and downs of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.
Hale will be playing aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene, a twenty-something New Yorker working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, navigating friendship and dating in the big city. Ashleigh Murray will be reprising her Riverdale role as singer/songwriter Josie McCoy, Julia Chan (Saving Hope) is on board as Pepper Smith and Jonny Beauchamp (Penny Dreadful) has been cast as Jorge / Ginger Lopez.
“Well I’m slightly freaking out!,” Hale posted on social media. “Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. my heart is bursting ❤️”
This marks a return to The CW for Hale. The actress starred in dramedy series Life Sentence, which was cancelled by the network after one season. Hale’s credits include Scream 4, Blumhouse’s 2018 horror film Truth or Dare, and upcoming Sony/Blumhouse pic Fantasy Island with Michael Peña and Maggie Q.
