Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are joining forces for Tough Guys, an Amazon MGM Studios action-comedy about two henchmen who decide they’re done being disposable — and end up with a target on their backs.
The film follows the pair as they attempt to leave their criminal lives behind, only to be hunted by their former boss. It’s a buddy setup with built-in carnage, the kind of high-concept premise that seems tailor-made for both stars’ comedic instincts — and their growing ties to action-adjacent material.
As first reported by Deadline, Tough Guys was written on spec by Workin’ Moms writer-producer Daniel Gold. Gosling is producing alongside Jessie Henderson under his General Admission banner, while Ferrell produces with Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe are on board as executive producers for Underground. A director has not yet been announced.

Though this marks their first feature pairing as leads, Gosling and Ferrell have shared screen time before — in Barbie and also as recurring characters in the absurd “Knife Guys” sketches on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which escalated from kitchen product chaos to steak-centric Heimlich gags.
As fans have already pointed out, Tough Guys continues a title trend. Gosling starred in The Nice Guys and The Fall Guy, while Ferrell brought the mayhem in The Other Guys. At this point, it’s practically a franchise in spirit.
Gosling is lined up for Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, while Ferrell has multiple projects on the slate, including You’re Cordially Invited, Judgment Day, and Netflix’s Golf series.

Production timelines haven’t been revealed, but with Gosling and Ferrell fronting a hitman comedy, it’s safe to expect blood, banter, and maybe even another branding-related Heimlich incident.
