Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool movie is on the way, although Wade Wilson may not be charging back into the spotlight quite as quickly as fans would like. The actor teased the Merc with the Mouth’s return during Fanatics Fest 2026, revealing that he is looking towards some lesser-known corners of the comics for inspiration. Marvel, meanwhile, is keeping its mouth firmly shut.

Ryan Reynolds Says Another Deadpool Film Is Coming

Speaking during a panel at the New York fan event, Reynolds reflected on comic-book material that has yet to make the jump to the big screen.

“There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies,” he said (as quoted by People), pointing to work from Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza and writer Gerry Duggan as potential sources of inspiration.

“There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”

That is not exactly a title, release date and cast announcement rolled into one, but it is the clearest confirmation yet that Reynolds is actively planning Wade Wilson’s next cinematic outing.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the project remains in the earliest stages of development, with no writer or director currently attached. Marvel Studios has yet to formally announce the film or comment on Reynolds’ remarks, and with major chapters such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday gearing up for release, it may be some time before the studio is ready to reveal exactly what shape it will take.

Deadpool May Not Be the Main Character This Time

Reynolds had already revealed in April that he had begun putting ideas on paper, although his plans may not involve another traditional solo adventure.

“I have some stuff kind of written,” Reynolds said during an appearance on Sunday Today. “I don’t think I’m going to centre him again. I think he’s a supporting character.”

That opens the door to a very different kind of follow-up. Rather than building another film entirely around Wade, Reynolds appears interested in dropping him into somebody else’s story and letting him cause chaos from the sidelines.

It is a structure that arguably plays to the character’s strengths. Deadpool can carry a movie, as three enormous box-office successes have made abundantly clear, but he becomes particularly unpredictable when forced to share the screen with someone who finds him completely unbearable.

Who Could Join Deadpool’s Next Team-Up?

Reynolds has described Deadpool as a character who works well in a group, but he does not want Wade becoming a card-carrying member of the Avengers or the X-Men.

The actor previously argued that Deadpool needs to remain an outsider, perpetually desperate for acceptance but far too self-destructive to actually achieve it. Letting him officially join one of Marvel’s superhero teams, Reynolds suggested, would effectively complete the character’s journey.

Whatever form the project takes, it could pair Deadpool with another established Marvel character, introduce figures pulled from deeper within his comic-book history or reunite him with someone from his chaotic collection of allies and enemies. Reynolds’ comments about overlooked material from Nicieza and Duggan suggest he is not merely looking to repeat the Wolverine formula with a different famous hero.

As for rumours that Deadpool could appear in Avengers: Doomsday, Reynolds has previously attempted to pour cold water on the speculation. Whether anyone believes him is another matter.

Deadpool & Wolverine Left Marvel with a Billion-Dollar Question

A follow-up was always going to be difficult for Marvel to resist after Deadpool & Wolverine carved through the box office in 2024.

The film teamed Reynolds with Hugh Jackman, brought Deadpool properly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and earned more than US$1.3 billion worldwide. It also became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever released, proving that Wade’s move from Fox to Disney had done nothing to blunt his commercial appeal.

The bigger question is how Reynolds and Marvel follow a film built around Jackman’s much-hyped Wolverine return. Simply finding another legacy character and repeating the routine would be the obvious move, but Reynolds’ comments point towards something stranger and potentially more rooted in Deadpool’s comic-book history.

For now, there is no title, production timetable or release date. There is only Reynolds promising that another film will “eventually” arrive.
