Ryan Reynolds has signed up to star in a time-travel adventure movie – a film that will reunite him with the director of upcoming action-comedy Free Guy.
This project has been circling a start for around eight years now. Paramount and Skydance have had it going in and out of development over the years – and Tom Cruise was at one point attached to star. It looks to be finally going ahead now, with Reynolds on board to star and produce, and Shawn Levy set to direct. Levy’s directing credits include the Reynolds-starring Free Guy (recently re-dated to December), the Night at the Museum movies, Real Steel, Date Night and eight episodes of Stranger Things, which he also executive produces.
THR broke the news, reporting that the still-untitled film will have Reynolds playing a “man who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self. Together, they encounter their late father, who is now the same age as Reynolds.”
The script is coming from Jonathan Tropper, who penned Levy’s dramedy This is Where I Leave You, created martial arts drama series Warrior, and co-created the action-drama series Banshee. The overall project actually began as Our Name is Adam, spawned from a spec script by T.S. Nowlin.
As of now, the plan is to get cameras on this time-travel movie rolling late this year, although it’s obviously depending on how the pandemic unfolds. Stay tuned!
