‘Salvable’ Trailer: Toby Kebbell is a Boxer Past His Prime and Shia LaBeouf is a Bad Influence with an Accent in Gritty U.K. Drama

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Salvable, a new boxing drama fronted by Toby Kebbell and Shia LaBeouf (sporting an accent). Directed by UK filmmaking duo Bjorn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta, the film follows a battered fighter past his prime who must confront both his fading future and the family he’s left behind. Take a look above.

Kebbell plays Sal, a once-promising boxer living in rural Ireland, now scraping by and trying to keep his life in check. When his fractured relationship with his teenage daughter reaches a breaking point, Sal is pulled back into the orbit of Vince (LaBeouf), a former convict and old friend whose influence threatens to drag him down a darker path.

“It was finished 10 years ago, Welly… I’m tired of being a punch bag,” Sal says in the trailer, speaking to James Cosmo’s Welly—one of the few people still in his corner, and with reminders of what’s happened before. “Last time you got mixed up with that prick, you nearly lost everything. Don’t forget that,” Welly says, warning him not to get involved with Vince again.  That inner conflict drives the narrative, as Sal attempts to get back on his feet while navigating the pressures of a small-town life, old loyalties, and long-festering regret.

The film, shot in Wales, marks the feature debut for Franklin and Marchetta, who previously directed short films and music videos. The cast also includes Michael Socha, Elaine Cassidy, Aiysha Hart, and Kila Lord Cassidy.

Salvable opens in U.S. cinemas and on VOD on May 2nd.
