Samara Weaving looks set to trade blood-soaked survival for diamond skin. The Australian actress has reportedly been chosen to play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie, placing one of mutantkind’s sharpest, most powerful and most morally complicated figures in the hands of the Ready or Not star.
Marvel may have left the new X-Men film out of its Comic-Con Hall H presentation, but the studio has been steadily moving mutant pieces into place across several films. Among the X-Men-related developments in the MCU so far, Professor X appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Beast surfaced in The Marvels, and Deadpool & Wolverine pushed the door open considerably further. Familiar faces from Fox’s mutant franchise are also returning in Avengers: Doomsday, although Weaving’s reported casting suggests Marvel is now getting serious about assembling its own team.

According to Deadline, Weaving emerged as the choice following an extensive search led by director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*, Beef) and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. A number of actresses reportedly met or auditioned for the role, with the final candidates testing shortly after the July 4 holiday. Weaving’s audition was ultimately said to be “too hard to beat”, although Marvel had no comment on the casting.
Samara Weaving Looks Set to Become the White Queen
Introduced in 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #129, Emma Frost debuted as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, a wealthy and formidable antagonist capable of reading and controlling minds.
The character eventually moved beyond her villainous origins to become an important X-Man, teacher and leader. Years later, Emma developed a secondary mutation allowing her to transform her body into an organic diamond form, granting her increased strength and durability while temporarily cutting her off from her telepathic abilities.
That evolution has made Emma one of the more complicated figures in the mutant corner of Marvel. She can be ruthless, calculating and openly contemptuous, yet fiercely protective of her students and allies. Her loyalties have shifted over the years, but her confidence, intelligence and cutting sense of humour have remained firmly intact.
January Jones previously played Emma Frost in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, serving as a member of Sebastian Shaw’s Hellfire Club. Tahyna Tozzi also played a diamond-skinned character named Emma in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although her connection to the comic-book Emma Frost was left ambiguous.
Why Samara Weaving Could Be a Strong Emma Frost
Weaving has built much of her career around characters forced to maintain some degree of composure while absolute chaos unfolds around them. She led the blood-soaked horror-comedy Ready or Not and its 2026 sequel, while her credits also include Mayhem, The Babysitter, Guns Akimbo and Scream VI.
Those performances have given Weaving plenty of opportunities to balance dark comedy, physical intensity and barely contained fury. Emma Frost will require a different kind of control, but Weaving has repeatedly demonstrated the screen presence needed to move between charm, menace and vulnerability without losing the audience.
The role could also provide Weaving with one of the biggest franchise commitments of her career. Depending on Marvel’s plans, Emma could operate as an antagonist, reluctant ally, full-fledged X-Man or some combination of all three across multiple projects.
Marvel’s New X-Men Movie Is Taking Shape
Schreier, who previously directed Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, is at the helm of the new film. He is reuniting with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo, who are working on the screenplay after both contributing to Thunderbolts*.
Plot details remain firmly under wraps, and Marvel has yet to formally announce the members of its new mutant team. The studio has also not confirmed a release date for the film.
The casting process is reportedly continuing across several major roles. For now, Marvel is keeping its cards close to its chest, but should Weaving’s deal be confirmed, the White Queen will be one of the first major pieces placed on the board for the MCU’s new generation of X-Men.
