Samara Weaving has joined the G.I. Joe team.
The Home & Away alum, also known for The Babysitter and Ready or Not, has been cast in the role of counter-intelligence officer Scarlett in upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff movie Snake Eyes. The character was previously played by Rachel Nichols in the 2009 film G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra.
“Gotta get some muscles now,” Weaving posted on social media.
Weaving joins a cast that includes Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as Snake Eyes, Andre Koji (Warrior) as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais (The Raid) as Hard Master, and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as The Baroness.
The character of Scarlett is a red-haired solider whose weapon of choice is a crossbow. She was introduced in the ’80s Hasbro toyline reboot and became a part of the franchise in the comics and animated series that followed.
The spinoff is to be directed by Robert Schwentke, whose previous credits include The Time Traveler’s Wife, Flightplan, Insurgent and Allegiant. The script comes from Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast remake and the Dwayne Johnson-starring Hercules movie.
Snake Eyes is lined up for Australian release on October 15 and US release on October 16, 2020.
