The trailer has arrived for the ninth film in the Saw franchise… this time starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson!

Get ready for Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which Rock created the story for and executive produces. The plot tells of a police veteran (Jackson), brash detective (Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) who find themselves on one hell of a murder case. Somebody *puts on sunglasses* … wants to play a game.

This could be a breath of fresh air for the long-running horror franchise. Rock isn’t the first name you’d think of when it comes to who would be best to deliver a new Saw movie, but I can’t deny that I’m pretty pumped to see what he’s got in store. And with Jackson, too?! Count me in.

Spiral, directed by returning Saw helmer Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III & IV), hits U.S. cinemas on May 15. No Australian date has been confirmed as yet.

Official synopsis for Spiral: The Book of Saw:

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
