It’s official: Sidney Prescott is returning.
Scream franchise star Neve Campbell has signed on that dotted line and will be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming fifth film. Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have officially announced that Campbell will be joining previously-announced returning castmates David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who will back as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, respectively.
“We’re pinching ourselves!” said directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the Ready or Not and Devil’s Due helmers who are part of a three-member filmmaking group known as Radio Silence. “It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honoured to join her in Woodsboro.”
Said Campbell: “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”
The fifth Scream will also be starring a number of new faces, including Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (In The Heights), and Jenna Ortega (You). And that’s not all, Deadline is now reporting that Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Mason Gooding (Booksmart) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood) are also on board.
Written by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock), the film is scheduled to open in Australia on January 13th and the US on January 14th, 2022.
