“After seeing that the cancellation was a total cluster, we decided to give Sense8 fans the ending they totally deserve,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statment last June, when it was announced that fans would be receiving a 2-hour finale special following the news that the series had been cancelled.
We’re in a time where enough fan love, well, enough loud fan love, has the power to get studios to deliver another season, to acquire another network’s cancelled show (NBC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans thank you), or, in this case, provide an ending.
“Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life. (I could kiss every one of you!)” co-creator Lana Wachowski told fans last year.
Fastforward around a year, and the final chapter is almost upon us. Netflix has unveiled a bittersweet promo announcing the date that the special will air, featuring cast members describing their love for what has been.
“I feel very lucky to have been part of this journey,” actress Freema Agymena, who plays Aminata in the series, says in this promo below. “It’s nice that we’re here together and we get to see it off together.”
The series, created buy J. Michael Straczynski, Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, has a loyal fanbase, one whose passion for the sci-fi drama ensured that a proper goodbye was in order.
After 23 episodes, Sense8 will conclude with a finale on June 8.
