Praise Kier! ‘Severance’ Has Been Officially Renewed for Season 3

Apple TV+

There’s no escaping from Lumon Industries. Apple TV+ has confirmed Severance will return for a third season!

The exciting – and admittedly unsurprising – announcement follows the second season’s record-breaking success. Apple has touted Severance as its most-watched series to date, performing better than the streamer’s other shows such as Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Slow Horses. Not a bad result for a show about work-life balance taken to nightmarish extremes. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning thriller has become quite the hit since its debut, earning acclaim for its unsettling world-building and sharp commentary on corporate control, cult constructs, and more.

Severance hails from executive producer and director Ben Stiller and creator, writer and executive producer Dan Erickson.

The news was also marked by a tongue-in-cheek exchange on social media between executive producer and director Ben Stiller and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Stiller took to X (formerly Twitter) to nudge the Apple boss directly, posting, “So some fans are asking for Season 3 of Severance. What do you say, @tim_cook?” Cook responded in kind, writing, “Season 3 of Severance is available upon request. – Tim C.” Consider the request officially granted.

“Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” said Stiller. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”

Adam Scott, who stars as Lumon employee Mark Scout, shared his enthusiasm for the renewal: “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast & crew, Apple and the whole Severance team. Oh hey also – not a huge deal – but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

Erickson added, “The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined. I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people.”

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, also praised the creative team, saying, “What Ben, Dan, Adam and the talented cast and crew behind Severance have brought to the screen is undeniable magic. We’re so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing what’s in store for season three.”

With a cast that also includes Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken, Severance follows team at Lumon Industries where employees undergo a procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. Season two explored the consequences of breaching the severance barrier, as Mark and his friends found themselves deeper in Lumon’s mysteries. The second season also introduced new regulars Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.

The first two seasons of Severance are now streaming globally on Apple TV+. A release date for season three has not yet been announced. After the long wait between seasons 1 and 2, here’s hoping the next chapter clocks in quicker.
