Black Bear has dropped the official trailer for Shelter, the latest Jason Statham action thriller. Watch the trailer above and read on for the details.
Statham’s on a windswept island with a target on his back and a child to protect. It’s classic hard-edged survival mode, with director Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch, Angel Has Fallen, Greenland) steering things toward his brand of grounded, bruising action.

The trailer wastes no time setting things up. Statham plays Michael Mason, a former assassin who has retreated to a remote island to disappear, both physically and morally. His quiet exile ends when a young girl turns up at his lighthouse, and the men hunting her aren’t far behind. Soon, armed teams are sweeping the island and Mason is dismantling attackers with improvised brutality.
Speaking with IGN about the film, Waugh described Mason as “this mysterious guy that’s been living in this abandoned lighthouse for over 10 years alone, isolated on this island,” explaining that the girl and her uncle have been bringing him supplies. “He won’t give them the time of day until one day he has to save her life, and now is stuck with her.” From there, he says, Mason’s past resurfaces and the story becomes “a great big action ride with two lost souls that find each other and become family.”
The heart of the film lies in Mason’s relationship with Jessie, played by Bodhi Rae Breathnach (So Awkward Academy). Waugh recalled that during auditions, “she was the first young girl that came in. Jason and I looked afterwards and we were like, what do we do now? Because we know that’s her.” He added that it becomes “a bit of a tear-jerker about two lost souls trying to find family and not wanting to lose it.”
Alongside Statham, the film features Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays. Waugh promises this is Statham firing on all cylinders: “This is Jason Statham at his best… He gives a performance that will blow your mind and win your heart over.”
Shelter arrives in U.S. cinemas on January 30, 2026.
