It looks like a sequel to last year’s fantastic thriller Sicario is well and truly on the way.
Lionsgate and Black Label Media are moving forward with a follow-up, which will see Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin reprising their respective roles from Sicario.
Deadline reports that the sequel, titled Soldado, will most likely be directed by Stefano Sollima, an Italian filmmaker who is no stranger to crime/political projects (A.C.A.B., Suburra, Gomorrah – TV show). Sollima is currently in talks that are “expected to wrap up quickly.”
The sequel will be focusing on Del Toro’s hardened killer Alejandro Gillick and Brolin’s CIA agent Matt Graver. Emily Blunt’s Kate Macer will not be returning. The plot reportedly revolves around Gillick and Graver and their mission to tackle the tunnels used to smuggle drugs, illegal immigrants, and terrorists between Mexico and the U.S.
Sicario scribe Taylor Sheridan has penned Soldado‘s screenplay, which has apparently been very well received by the studios.
