Real life/screen buddies Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are set to star together in a comedy-horror series titled Truth Seekers, which has now been picked up by Amazon Prime Video.
The series will find Pegg and Frost playing paranormal investigators Dave and Gus, who team up to look into paranormal sightings across the UK. Their plan is to capture some action on camera, using homemade gizmos and sharing their adventures on an online channel as they investigate haunted churches, underground bunkers and abandoned hospitals. As the pair experience supernatural occurrences that are increasingly terrifying and frequent, they soon find themselves uncovering a conspiracy that could threaten the entire human race.
Amazon Prime Video has landed the international rights to the project and will be releasing it as one of its original series. Truth Seekers is the first project to come from Stolen Picture, the British film production company founded by Pegg and Frost in 2016.
“Nick and I are delighted that Truth Seekers has found a home with Amazon Prime Video,” Pegg said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to working closely with them and creating something very special. These are truly exciting times for television, and I can’t think of a better partner than Amazon to accompany us on a return to the smaller screen.”
Said Frost: “It’s been nothing but a joyride in seeing this mad tale of paranormal conspiracy unfold in all its understated brilliance. Amazon’s commitment and support of the show, and of original programming generally, showed us that we couldn’t be collaborating with a bigger or better team.”
Pegg and Frost have worked together a number of times over the years. Their mutual credits include series Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Paul, Slaughterhouse Rulez and The Adventures of Tintin.
Truth Seekers will reportedly have 8 installments, each around half and hour in length. Production is expected to kick off in September this year.
