Star Trek 3 has had an interesting development: placing actor Simon Pegg on writing duties.
Deadline initially broke the news, reporting that Pegg will be co-writing the third chapter in the rebooted series alongside Dark Blue creator Doug Jung.
Pegg will be reprising his role as Scotty, which means we could be seeing the character getting a bit more screentime this time around.
Lead actor Chris Pine, talking to MTV, has expressed his delight in Pegg’s new responsibilities.
“Yeah, he sent an e-mail to all of us, and we’re all really excited,” Pine said. “What we enjoy about it is that we have a laugh. We want to make sure that that’s still embedded in there, so to have Simon writing it is the perfect fit.”
As of now, Star Trek 3 is set for a U.S. release of July 8, 2016.
