Sofia Boutella Gets Lead Role in Star Trek 3

Fresh off playing an assassin with blade legs in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, Sofia Boutella has earned herself a lead role in the next Star Trek film.

Deadline reports that Boutella will be taking on a lead role in Star Trek 3, but it isn’t known whether she’ll be playing a goodie or baddie. Her part in Kingsman suggests she could be up for a villain, but there’s simply nothing else to go on at this time.

Star Trek 3 will be the first Trek film from the new franchise not to be directed by J.J. Abrams, who’s off on that other Star film, and will instead see Justin Lin (Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6) at the helm. The screenplay comes from actor Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (known for TNT’s Dark Blue).

As of now, Star Trek 3 has a U.S. release planned for July 8, 2016.
