Get ready for more car films. Sony Pictures will be bringing the classic video game franchise Gran Turismo to the big screen. The Wrap has reported that the film will be produced by Fifty Shades of Grey producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti. It was only a matter of time before Sony Pictures tried their hand at a car franchise – everyone else is.
Universal Pictures has been bringing in the cash with their Fast & Furious franchise. Fast & Furious 6 broke records worldwide and earned more than $700 million internationally.
DreamWorks now has their own car franchise in the works with Need for Speed. The film, also based on a best-selling video game franchise, is directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) and will star Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Michael Keaton. The film will hit cinemas March 14, 2014.
Gran Turismo is Playstation’s biggest video game series, selling around 70 million copies worldwide. It’s fair to assume that there will be quite a few Gran Turismo aficionados looking forward to seeing this film roll out.
There’s no word on who will star or direct. Expect that news to come out real soon.
