Take a look at the first trailer for Soul, an upcoming Disney•Pixar film featuring voice work from Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey.
Pixar films are known for sometimes packing quite the emotional wallop (Up, Wall•E, Toy Story 3, etc), and this one’s shaping up to likely be a real tearjerker. Soul tells the story of an aspiring musician (Foxx) who, just when he thinks his dream might be in reach, takes a single unexpected step and finds himself in a fantastical place where he’s is forced to think again about what it truly means to have soul. That’s where he meets and ultimately teams up with 22 (Fey), a soul who doesn’t think life on Earth is all it’s cracked up to be.
Yeah, it looks like we’re going to be dealing with life and death in a similar way to how we explored emotions in Inside Out. It’s exciting, but… I’m still not over Bing Bong.
The film is directed by two-time Oscar-winner Pete Docter, who’s well-versed in getting those emotions worked up having delivered Pixar masterpieces Monsters, Inc., Up, and Inside Out. Kemp Powers, staff writer on Star Trek: Discovery, is on board as co-director. Composing the score are Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Gone Girl), with globally renowned musician Jon Batiste writing original jazz music for the film.
Soul, also featuring the voices of Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Daveed Diggs, will hit US cinemas on June 19, 2020.
