Sadie Sink is making the leap from Hawkins to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Stranger Things star has been cast in the next Spider-Man film, set to star alongside Tom Holland. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are moving forward with the fourth chapter of Holland’s Spidey story, with cameras expected to start rolling later this year.

As for who Sink will be playing – that information remains tightly under wraps, although early word suggests it’s a key part of the new story. Deadline first reported the casting news, describing Sink’s role as “significant”.

Unsurprisingly, speculation has taken off. Some theories suggest she might be playing Jean Grey, as the studio prepares to bring in the X-Men in a big way. Others speculate she could be stepping into the shoes of a classic Spider-Man character, such as Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson. As for now, Sony and Marvel are keeping quiet and are yet to release a statement regarding Sink’s casting.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is at the helm of the film, with Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige producing. There’s the potential for a bit of a tonal change-up with this Spidey outing, particularly with the departure of Jon Watts, who directed the previous trilogy. Holland has hinted at an out-there concept for chapter 4. “The idea is crazy,” he teased in an interview with Good Morning America in October 2024. “It’s a little different to anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it.”

What exactly awaits Peter Parker in his next outing is still unclear. The previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, ended with Peter wiping his existence from the memories of everyone he loves—including MJ and Ned. With that emotional reset in place, many expect the next story to focus on Peter navigating a lonelier existence. That shift, of course, opens the door for almost endless possibilities and new characters, and Sink is reportedly the first major addition to the cast.

As for Sink, her schedule is packed. She recently wrapped filming on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things and will next be seen in O’Dessa, a post-apocalyptic musical from Searchlight Pictures that will hit Hulu and Disney+ on March 20th. Sink is also set to make her Broadway debut next month in John Proctor Is the Villain.

Spider-Man 4 is currently slated to hit U.S. cinemas on 31 July 2026.
