Peter Parker has barely had time to catch his breath. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already swung past US$1 billion worldwide, turning Tom Holland’s latest solo outing into the kind of box office event usually reserved for the Avengers.

Spider-Man Is Moving at Avengers Speed

Sony Pictures announced on Tuesday that Brand New Day had grossed US$1.05 billion globally after only six days in cinemas.

That makes the film the second-fastest release in history to cross the billion-dollar mark. The only movie to get there sooner was Avengers: Endgame, which needed five days in 2019.

At the time of Sony’s announcement, that total comprised US$407.2 million from North America and US$645.8 million internationally. It is also the fourth 2026 release to join the billion-dollar club, following The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael and Toy Story 5.

The Records Keep Stacking

The film’s sprint began with a staggering US$932 million global launch, the second-biggest worldwide opening ever behind the US$1.2 billion debut of Endgame.

Spider-Man did manage to take one major record away from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. After final figures were counted, Brand New Day finished its first North American weekend with US$360 million, narrowly passing Endgame’s long-standing US$357.1 million benchmark.

The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed blockbuster also delivered the biggest domestic previews in history with US$72 million, became the fastest film to cross US$400 million in North America — doing so in four days — and scored a record US$47 million on Monday.

Not bad for a movie initially projected to open with around US$190 million domestically.

A Much-Needed Marvel Jolt

The scale of the success is particularly striking following years of warnings about superhero and franchise fatigue, along with several uneven box office results for recent Marvel releases.

Audiences have not simply turned up, either. They appear to be enjoying what they have seen, with Brand New Day earning an A CinemaScore and holding a 98% Rotten Tomatoes audience score at the time of writing.

Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman pointed to that response while celebrating the film’s launch.

“All the geniuses who said that theatrical movies were dead, they’re not necessarily right,” Rothman told The Hollywood Reporter. “Actually, the theatrical marketplace is booming right now, and I’m excited about it. So I’m very optimistic.”

Alongside Holland, the film stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal. It was produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal on a reported US$225 million production budget.

Can Spider-Man Reach US$2 Billion?

The wall-crawler has already cleared one enormous milestone. Now attention turns to whether he can join an even more exclusive club.

Only seven films have grossed more than US$2 billion worldwide: Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Ne Zha 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War.

Holland’s previous solo film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, finished just shy of that mark with more than US$1.9 billion. Whether Brand New Day can become the first Spider-Man movie to cross US$2 billion will depend heavily on how strongly it holds in the weeks ahead.

Whatever happens from here, US$1 billion in six days makes one thing abundantly clear: superhero fatigue may be real, but audiences are nowhere near tired of Spider-Man.
