Peter Parker isn’t done smashing box office records just yet. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reportedly being lined up for another theatrical run, this time with new footage added to the record-breaking Tom Holland blockbuster.
And then there’s the timing. Avengers: Endgame Encore just stormed back to No. 1 at the box office, pulling in USD$86 million worldwide over its opening weekend. That included USD$26 million from North America and USD$60 million internationally, pushing Endgame‘s lifetime global total to around USD$2.885 billion.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Sony Pictures is working on a Brand New Day re-release featuring extra footage. There’s no date yet and no word on exactly how much will be added, but one familiar face is apparently getting another shot at making the final cut: Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.

Rosario Dawson’s Deleted Scene Could Finally Make the Cut

As we previously reported, Dawson revealed that she had filmed a return as Claire, the character she played across Marvel’s Netflix-era shows including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.
“I even shot the scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out,” Dawson said during a GalaxyCon Raleigh panel.
The scene took place after Peter’s battle with Scorpion, with Claire tending to the injured superhero in hospital. Co-writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers later said the sequence worked, with Sommers suggesting it was ultimately dropped for time.
And she apparently won’t be the only addition. Deadline’s report indicates the new footage isn’t limited to Dawson’s scene, leaving the much more interesting question of what else Sony has sitting in the editing room.
Spider-Man Is Already Closing in on Another Massive Record

Sony isn’t exactly trying to breathe life into an underperformer here. Brand New Day has earned around USD$950.7 million in North America and USD$2.495 billion worldwide. It has already overtaken Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office (unadjusted for inflation), while globally it sits behind only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
That also leaves Peter Parker within striking distance of something no film has ever achieved: USD$1 billion from the North American box office alone. Another theatrical push with unseen footage certainly wouldn’t hurt.
The film landed well with us, too. Screen Realm’s review praised the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed sequel as an exciting new swing for Holland’s Spider-Man, highlighting its character work, action and renewed energy for the web-slinger.
Other Marvel Movies That Have Been Re-Released in Cinemas

This isn’t the first time Marvel fans have been given a reason to head back to cinemas for a movie they’ve already seen.
Sony released an extended cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home theatrically in 2019, adding approximately four minutes that included a previously unseen action sequence. In 2022, Spider-Man: No Way Home returned to cinemas as The More Fun Stuff Version, with more than 11 minutes of additional and extended material.
Marvel Studios also held an Avengers: Endgame “Bring Back” theatrical event in June 2019, towards the end of the film’s original run. That version included an introduction from Anthony Russo, an unfinished deleted scene and a sneak peek at Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Endgame Encore has taken the extra-footage idea considerably further. Rather than simply restoring material left on the cutting-room floor, Marvel added newly filmed scenes that directly connect the 2019 blockbuster to Avengers: Doomsday.
There’s currently no indication that Brand New Day is planning anything quite that substantial, so expecting some enormous Doomsday reveal would be getting ahead of the facts.
For now, the draw is simple: more Spider-Man, unseen footage and a second chance for Claire Temple to finally make it onto the big screen. With Brand New Day less than USD$50 million away from an unprecedented USD$1 billion domestic haul, Sony has one hell of an incentive to send Spidey swinging back into cinemas.
