Writer-director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy could have another box office hit on their hands. The duo, who brought in serious dough with Bridesmaids and The Heat, have reteamed for another comedy, this one set in the world of espionage and spies.
Spy sees McCarthy play Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst bored of being stuck behind her desk. When her partner (Jude Law) ends up compromising himself and another top agent (Jason Statham), Susan volunteers to take down the bad guys.
The supporting cast is certainly impressive and the first trailers thankfully don’t give away too much, but we’re a little wary about another comedy with McCarthy doing her usual thing. Still, it’s early days yet, and this could end up being quite the funny hit. Hopefully.
The film also stars Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Peter Serafinowicz, Miranda Hart, Allison Janney and Morena Baccarin.
