Gwendoline Christie is set to reprise her role as Captain Phasma in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Many were disappointed by the role Captain Phasma had to play in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After all, marketing had made us all believe that the slick-looking potential villain would be a big part of the movie. Instead, after just a few scenes, Phasma was -literally- thrown in the trash.
“I will be in the next Star Wars movie,” Christie told People while in attendance at the 2016 SAG Awards.
It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to learn that Phasma will be involved in the next film, but it’s a promising fact for the many that were aching to see more of her.
“I was very overexcited. I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time,” the Game of Thrones actress said.
“And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.”
Looper director Rian Johnson is currently filming Star Wars: Episode 8, with a release date planned for December 15, 2017.
This year will see the release of Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. That one hits screens on December 16.
