The title and first poster for the next Star Wars film, Episode VIII, has been unveiled.
Ladies and gentlemen, the eighth episode in the mammoth saga has been officially titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi…
Naturally, with a title like The Last Jedi, concerned whispers have arisen wondering if this could be the final chapter in the linear series. It’s highly unlikely. Although Rogue One has just broken the $US1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, Episode VII – The Force Awakens – is currently the third-highest grossing film of all time. At least so far, the real dollars are in the big episodic chapters.
Meanwhile, the speculation is on as to who this “Last Jedi” is exactly. It’s easy to assume that it’s Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who appeared at the end of The Force Awakens, but could he end up bestowing the mantle onto someone else? Rey (Daisy Ridley)? Perhaps someone we’re yet to meet? Then again, Jedi is plural. Let’s hope the first trailer for the film drops soon.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, also starring John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Dohmnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran, with Looper director Rian Johnson at the helm, will open in the US on December 15.
