The big numbers being brought in by a little film known as Star Wars: The Force Awakens is adding to the hugely impressive returns seen at the box office this year.

The Force Awakens officially hit its first markets on December 16, and it’s already earned a whopping $528.9 million worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing worldwide weekend earner of all time, surpassing Jurassic World‘s worldwide opening weekend of $524.9 million.

The seventh Star Wars film earned $247.9 million domestically in the first three days of release, which also gives it the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend of all time. Jurassic World set the previous record earlier this year, locking in a domestic opening weekend of $208.8 million.

The Force Awakens is still on an international rollout. Greece, Cyprus, India and Pakistan will be receiving the picture in the next few days, but it’s China, the world’s second-biggest box office market, where numbers are expected to take another jump. The film hits China on January 9.

J.J. Abrams’ space adventure is yet another huge earner for 2015. One look at all-time box office numbers shows an astonishing fact: almost half of the highest-earning movies ever made have been released in 2015.

As it currently stands, Jurassic World‘s $1.6 billion, Furious 7‘s $1.5 billion, Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s $1.4 billion and Minions‘ $1.1 billion place the films at positions 3, 5, 6 and 10 respectively in the top ten. As The Force Awakens continues to take the box office by storm, it’s not hard to assume the picture will also find a home high on the list.

Another interesting fact: all of 2015’s entries into the top ten highest-grossing films of all time come from Universal and Disney. The two studios are, of course, the true winners of 2015.
