The big final full-length trailer has arrived for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The Force Awakens helmer J.J. Abrams returns to direct the Star Wars franchise’s Episode IX, which delivers a close to the Skywalker saga that began with George Lucas’ A New Hope back in 1977. There’s a lot for fans to speculate on as this trilogy’s finale approaches, and one big question, of course, surrounds what the future holds for Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). That last D23 trailer hinted that Rey may be going the Dark route, although many aren’t expecting Disney to let the character end on that side.
The new trailer looks appropriately epic, and it may very well be packing an emotional punch. C-3PO has a surprisingly tender moment to remind us that, yes, this could be the last time we see a number of our favourite characters. It’s been a bumpy trilogy for the franchise’s outspoken fans, with The Last Jedi in particular receiving some major backlash from a large number. Finger crossed here.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker also stars, among others, Carrie Fisher (in a role made from unused Last Jedi footage), John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, and Kelly Marie Tran, with Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams back as Emperor Palpatine and Lando Calrissian respectively.
The film opens in Australian cinemas on December 19 and opens in the US on December 20.
