With the final season of Stranger Things approaching, Finn Wolfhard is reflecting on the end of the journey — and it sounds like it’s left him with a swirl of emotions.

Speaking to People, the actor shared his reaction to how things wrap for Mike Wheeler, the role he’s played since the series launched in 2016 – back when he 13 years old.

“I was so happy with his ending, and I don’t know, I was satisfied, but I was also very confused and sad, but also very happy,” Wolfhard said.

Filming the final scenes came with a heavy emotional weight. “I felt like I was in a dream or something. None of it felt real. I don’t know, it felt perfect,” he recalled. “It didn’t really start to go into focus until the next day. It was like an emotional hangover.”

Wolfhard said the full cast stayed to mark the final day together. “We were all there together. It was really great to be around each other.”

Though plot details remain under wraps, the final chapter is expected to follow the Hawkins crew as they confront Vecna and the escalating threat of the Upside Down. Stranger Things season 5 will premiere this year – with an official release date pending.

Wolfhard’s Hell of a Summer, a horror comedy he co-directed, co-wrote, and stars in, opened in U.S. cinemas on April 4th and will open the Fantastic Film Festival in Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) on April 24th. He’s also in the cast of fantasy adventure The Legend of Ochi, opening in U.S. cinemas on April 25th and arriving in Australia later this year.
