Jason Momoa is green, fanged and looking extremely pleased to have Andrew Koji trapped inside a cage. Paramount Pictures has released a clip from Street Fighter, unleashing Momoa’s Blanka against Koji’s Ryu in a prison brawl packed with electricity, wall-climbing and one very familiar fireball. Watch the clip above and read on for what to know.
Jason Momoa’s Blanka Has Been Unleashed
The clip finds Ryu thrown into a metal fighting cage surrounded by screaming inmates, while David Dastmalchian’s M. Bison watches the chaos from above. The green-skinned fighter makes quick work of several prisoners chained to him, sending electricity surging through the restraints into one particularly unfortunate inmate before launching himself into the arena to confront Ryu.
More on Screen Realm:
Ryu initially refuses to engage. “Stop! I do not wish to fight you,” he tells Blanka, whose response is straightforward: “Then, you die.”
What follows is a brief but enticing showcase of the abilities fans will recognise from the games. Blanka charges across the arena in his rolling attack, scales the walls, launches a two-footed kick and electrifies the surrounding cage. Ryu eventually responds with a glowing Hadoken that sends his opponent flying backwards.
The sequence presents Blanka as a more menacing figure than the largely good-hearted character familiar from much of the game series. His brutal arrival suggests that this version may be under M. Bison’s control, imprisoned by him or simply enjoying the chance to cause some damage. Momoa nevertheless brings a mischievous edge to the performance.
The World Warrior Tournament Hides a Deadly Conspiracy
Set in 1993, Street Fighter follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, played by Noah Centineo, as they are unexpectedly pulled back into combat.
The mysterious Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, recruits the pair for the next World Warrior Tournament, a brutal competition bringing fighters from around the globe together.
A deadly conspiracy lies behind the tournament, forcing the former friends to confront each other and the unresolved demons of their shared past.
A Packed Roster and a Track Featuring 50 Cent, Eminem and Tupac
The large ensemble includes Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim and Orville Peck as Vega.
Olivier Richters plays Zangief, Hirooki Goto portrays E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham appears as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski plays Joe and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson takes on the role of Balrog.
The soundtrack is also shaping up to be noteworthy, particularly for hip-hop fans. 50 Cent has revealed that the film’s theme will feature him and Eminem alongside previously unreleased recordings from none other than Tupac.
Speaking on Today while promoting the upcoming STARZ series Fightland, 50 Cent said he had created the track with Eminem using unreleased material recorded by Tupac. “We worked on it, and got it right,” he said, also clarifying that AI was not used.
Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip, episodes of Beef, Dave and Twisted Metal) directs from a screenplay he wrote with T.J. Fixman, based on a story by Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman. Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Takayuki Nakayama and Stefan Makhoul serve as producers.
Release Date
Based on Capcom’s long-running video game franchise, Street Fighter opens in Australian cinemas on October 15 and U.S. cinemas on October 16, 2026.
