After rocking Hall H at Comic-Con, the Suicide Squad trailer was leaked and began spreading online. As a result, Warner Bros. has decided to go ahead and officially release the first trailer in the non-pirated, high-quality form the studio originally intended.
“We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation,” Sue Kroll, Warner Bros. Pictures President – Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, said in a statement.
Regardless of the drawn out piracy game plaguing every studio under the sun, we now have the first Suicide Squad trailer. The dark side associated with DC films nowadays is certainly going all-out noir here, with director David Ayer (Training Day, End of Watch, Fury) looking to drive home what could be the grittiest DC movie thus far.
It’s a smartly crafted 3-minute trailer, giving away just enough teaser imagery to fill the running time, but keeping its cards close to its chest. We meet some of the main players in the Suicide Squad, of which Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn looks to be standout, and are introduced to Jared Leto’s menacing Joker in the last few seconds. It’s hard to know what Leto will bring to the classic character from this bit of footage, but he looks to be embracing the part, bringing in traits we’ve seen delivered before and signing it off with his own spin.
Suicide Squad, also starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, hits the U.S. on August 5, 2016.
