The trailer has arrived for upcoming feature documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, offering a glimpse into the extraordinary life of the man who became an icon both on and off the screen. Take a look above.
This emotional and inspirational-looking documentary delves deep into the life of Christopher Reeve, the actor who immortalised DC character Superman on the screen and later became a symbol of resilience and activism. Reeve’s journey from a relatively unknown actor to the definitive Superman is legendary. His portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman not only set the standard for superhero portrayals but also helped lay the foundation for the cinematic universes that dominate today’s film industry. However, Reeve’s story took a dramatic turn in 1995 when a devastating horse-riding accident left him paralysed. Instead of retreating from the public eye, Reeve became a powerful advocate for disability rights and a relentless campaigner for spinal cord injury research.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story promises to be a deeply personal and moving exploration of Reeve’s life, featuring never-before-seen home movies, a treasure trove of personal archive material, and the first extended interviews with his children—Alexandra, Matthew, and Will Reeve. The film also includes insights from Reeve’s Hollywood peers, offering a comprehensive look at his legacy.
The documentary was directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the duo who also crafted acclaimed 2020 Netflix documentary Rising Phoenix, focusing on the Paralympic Games, and 2018’s McQueen, looking at the life and work of fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, produced by Passion Pictures and Misfits Entertainment, will have screenings in US theatres on September 21, with an encore presentation on September 25 (Reeve’s birthday). The documentary opens in Australian cinemas on October 10th.
